Dr. Ziegler has been involved with emergency medicine all his life starting as a nursing technician at his hometown hospital’s ER when he was 18 but didn’t choose to go to medical school until he was in his mid-thirties. He’s proud of saying that he had a life before medical school, which is reflected in his rapport with patients. For the last 25 years, he has worked in multiple hospitals as an Emergency Physician. He moved to Humboldt County in 2009 and saw a need for alternative ways to access a doctor when you need one.

Starting in 2012, he volunteered his time on HealthTap.com, a free online service where anyone can ask medical questions and get answers from physicians. He received several awards there and now serves on their medical advisory board. In 2021, he became a chief medical officer for California’s Disaster Response Medical Assistance Teams, a California Emergency Medical Services Agency (EMSA) division providing medical teams for CalFire. This year he was deployed on the Mosquito Fire and last year on the Dixie Fire, the largest fire in California history.
